La Rinconada

La Rinconada in Peru is an old gold mining camps in the corners of the Andes, Peru, which has grown into a big ' city '. More than 50,000 people live in this mountain town at an altitude of 16.732 feet (5,100 m), making it the title as the "world's tallest city."

Although its economy is driven almost entirely by a gold mine nearby, the city's infrastructure remains poor. The city has no pipeline and no sanitation system, and there is significant contamination from mercury due to mining practices.

Almost all the inhabitants of this city are workers who emigrated to this remote location in hopes of getting a job and gold. They work in a bizarre payment system called Cachorreo. Employees work for 30 days without pay, and on the 31st day they are allowed to take ore from the mine as much as they can carry. Whatever can they extract from the ore belongs to them. Although the company uses non-traditional payment systems, miners continue to flock to the area. The population of La Rinconada has skyrocketed more than 230% in the last decade.


El Alto

The city of El Alto is one of the largest urban centre of the fastest growing in Bolivia. With a population of more than 1.1 million at 13.615 ft (4,150 m), El Alto was also entered in the list of the highest major city in the world. At one time, El Alto is just another suburbs (suburbs) adjacent to La Paz on the plateau of the Altiplano, but due to migration from rural areas to the region of La Paz Bolivia during the 1950s, the region is growing and in less than 40 years of claiming "city Status" of his own.

Potosi is located at the foot of Cerro de Potosí – mountain that is popular is considered made from silver ores, where the peak as high as 4824 meters have always dominated the city. Cerro Rico was the reason for the critical history of Potosí, because it is the main supply of silver to Spain during the period of the new world Empire of Spain.

Most of the silver sent to Spain came from Potosí. During 1556 – 1783, 45,000 tons of pure silver were mined from Cerro Rico, 9,000 tons in send to Spain monarchy. Because of intensive mining, mountain itself had been reduced several hundred metres in height.
The year 1672, mint (metal printing) was established to make silver coins and water reservoir was built to meet the needs of the growing population there. 


By that time more than eighty six churches were built and the population increased to nearly 200,000, making it one of the largest and richest city in the world. After 1800, the silver mined any time running out, making the lead into the main product. This ultimately led to an economic downturn. However, the mountain was mined for silver continues to this day. Because the condition of workers, the lack of protective equipment and komstan breathing in dust, the miners still had a short life expectancy with most of them contracting silikosis and died about 40 years.


Shigatse

Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of the People's Republic of China. With a population of 100,000, Shigatse is one of the major cities in Tibet. The town is located at an altitude of 12,600 ft (3, 840 m) at the confluence of the Yarlung Tsangpo (aka Brahmaputra) and the Nyang River (Nyang Chu or Nyanchue) in the West of Tibet.

Shigatse is located on flat terrain surrounded by high mountains, and the urban area is located just south of the Yarlung Zangbo River. It is the capital of the ancient province of Ü-Tsang, and currently is the administrative center of modern Shigatse Prefecture, an administrative district of TAR.



Juliaca

Juliaca is the capital city of San Roman in the Puno Region, in southeastern Peru. This is the area of the largest city with a population of 225.146 inhabitants (2007) and lies at an altitude of 12.549 ft (3825 meters) above sea level, on the Collao Plateau. This is the largest trade centre in the region Puno. Juliaca is also a major transit point in the region and have strong ties with the cities of the South of Peru, including Arequipa, Tacna, Puno, Cuzco, Ilo, and with the Republic of Bolivia.



Oruro
